Behind the scenes look at rehearsal
Oct. 17 thru Oct. 28
This year Carlsbad's delegation visit to Futtsu will include our President, Tom Hersant and his wife Tonya, and our Vice President, Harriet Norris. They will be in Japan the last two weeks of October, a nice and relatively balmy time shortly after the conclusion of the typhoon season.
Futtsu's International Relations Association will host them upon their arrival and provide them with tours of significant locations in the Tokyo/Futtsu area (see itinerary, below). They have been so kind as to arrange an itinerary for their guests to visit other important Japanese sites during the remainder of the stay.
Wakanabe san stayed with Tom and Tonya during his visit to Carlsbad earlier this year and has most graciously offered to be their tour guide during their extended visit. Tom will, as always, take an unreasonable number of pictures and videos so that he can have some good stuff to post here on our web site.
Stay tuned!

Apr. 14:
Steven Nossan, Director of Carlsbad's Front Porch Gallery has presented the Carlsbad Sister City Ambassadors with a commemorative gift as well. He boxed a version of his book "Spiral Bound" along with an invitation to Karlovy Vary to collaborate on an artistic project, e.g., art show, historical exhibit, installation and/or event. Tom will present Steven's offer to Karlovy Vary's newly elected Lord Mayor as an example of our city's ongoing interest in sharing in and benefiting from the cultural, educational and business connections so abundant in our shared world.
Mar. 25
: Carlsbad home brewer Eric Edwardson got the Sister City spirit and designed two original brews that include Karlovy Vary's iconic Becherovka herbal bitters. He made both light and dark versions of his tasty Herbal Style brew and presented them to the Carlsbad Sister City Ambassadors. Rich Paulsen has designed attractive and artistic commemorative labels to affix to the bottles. Tom will present them to the Lord Mayor at the 20th Anniversary Celebration of our sister city relationship at Karlovy Vary on May 6th.
Mar 23:
Our own President Tom Hersant was interviewed by Channel 8 KFMB and broadcast on their 11:00 am news. They will also cover the arrival of the Futtsu delegation at 1:30 pm and broadcast it on their evening news show.
The North County Times has a great article about the arrival of the Japanese delegation from sister city Futtsu, Japan tomorrow. We're expecting a large group to welcome them to Carlsbad. Come and join us if you can.
Mar 23-Mar 29:
Carlsbad Sister City Ambassadors will be hosting 4 young ladies from our sister city, Futtsu (near Tokyo). They will arrive in Carlsbad March 23 and depart March 29. One is age 16 and in high school; two are 18 and 20 and in college; and one is 24 and a city employee. Carlsbad and Futtsu have enjoyed a 20-year relationship as sister cities and every two years Futtsu sends a delegation of students ranging from middle school to college ages to spend a week in our beautiful city.
